Voluntary Student Activities

The world is a very big place and now that there are so many billions of people living on our planet, the number of people in need – especially children – is at a higher level than ever before. Rampant poverty is still a global reality, even today in this era of plenty. It turns out that some of the most effective people to help those who are less fortunate end up being high school and college students of all ages and both sexes. Due to the amount of time that is available to a person in these age groups, they are far more capable of being able to get solid work done that can help these fragile communities join the global community and be able to have a higher standard of living than ever before. Adults who are already locked into life long careers could never afford to leave their jobs long enough to do what a single student can do in one volunteer mission.

For those students who wonder what all opportunities are available to them, the following is a list that encompasses many things student workers do on a regular basis all over Asia, Africa, South America, Central America, Europe and the Middle East:

Education – Basic schools are not a reality in all nations. When it comes to teaching, the younger the teacher the easier it is for kids to relate. Students often teach not only young children, but teens and adults, as well. They learn just as much themselves from the knowledge the local people have to share.

Sports – Teaching sports and helping people learn more about not only the importance of organized play, but the effect it can have on their bodies is crucial. In some countries, a child that learns a sport and excels at it may well have a ticket straight out of poverty simply because one student took the time to tutor them.

Agriculture – Farming is still crucial in many cultures and helping plant seeds or bring in a harvest is one way to help, but teaching the local people how to farm better? That is a skill set that can last them generations.

Orphans – In very poor countries it is common for children to be given up because their parents simply cannot afford to feed, clothe and shelter them. Students can help with orphanage duties and socializing children.

Animal Welfare – Many nations do not yet have any standards in the way that animals are treated. Those who are never taught about cruelty or how to care better for animals end up having little empathy for their fellow humans, too. This is a crucial role for students who love working with animals and people.
