VIRTUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Virtual Volunteering

Many people are looking for volunteer opportunities that they can complete via their home or work computers and the Internet. Family commitments, personal time constraints, a disability and other factors can all make it difficult for individuals to volunteer their services. Virtual volunteering allows anyone to contribute time and expertise to not-for-profit organizations, schools, government offices, and other agencies that utilize volunteer services, without ever leaving his or her home or office.

Although still a relatively new trend, there are numerous examples of both technical assistance and direct service Virtual Volunteering. Here are just a few:

    • Individuals "visiting" via electronic mail someone who is home-bound, in the hospital or in a nursing home.
    • People helping design Web pages, newsletters and brochures using their home computers. Volunteers answering managerial questions and conducting online outreach for nonprofit organizations.

End Date: 2/28/2008

Location: From Anywhere in the US

Description: FACTS: A WAR-RAVAGED COUNTRY NEEDS A MIRACLE! The war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been one of the bloodiest conflicts known since the Second World War,“ according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). A Six-Year War - 4 Million Killed - Schools Dismantled! Much help is needed to help rebuild the University, ”Université Franco-Américaine de Kinshasa“, and the Youth Education in the War-Shattered Congo. Aforgotten emergency. There is a humanitarian imperative to assist the youth by bringing classroom to life again. The "3 Miilion Friends of the War-shattered Congo" campaign is a student/teacher-run response to the crisis. We are looking for caring Student and Teacher volunteers to help run a nationwide response by raising awareness and engaging schools' communities, children, parents, organizations, and beyond to send us whatever they can ($1, $2, $5, or more) to the cause. Volunteers can work from anywhere and communicate with our office. They can use all the means, including speaking at different Elementary, Middle & High schools, Colleges' clubs, Youth Groups, Churches, and emailing more closest friends and organizations to do the same. The goal is to reach as many Americans as possible. Education will prepare the youth for the key challenges faced by the nation: the fight against Poverty, AIDS, Malaria, and Tuberculosis. The objective is to acquire a classroom building, support faculty and students who are in desperate need, including women, an issue of grave concern.
