Mission

Raises the levels of awareness of the many dimensions of diversity-race, gender, weight, religion, language, albleism, class, sexual orientation, etc.-throughout the BHS Community;

 

Offers training seminars each semester that feature awareness and self-identity exercises for participants who return to their classes and report the results;

 

Develops an elementary school Prejudice Reduction Program to help initiate diversity acceptance;

 

Produces assembly programs at BHS and other schools that focus on Club diversity goals for the year; and

 

Plans to facilitate seminars, field trips and speakers for the BHS Community that contribute to diversity awareness issues.

Cultural Diversity Club exists and provides a focus for all members of the BHS Community to:

 

 

 

  • increase our knowledge and awareness of our own  biases and to take personal responsibility for combating prejudice and discrimination;

 

 

  • challenge the stereotypes and biases which inhibit intergroup understanding and to provide techniques for combating these stereotypes and biases;

 

 

  • discuss the complexities of prejudice and identify ways members of our community have experienced prejudice in their lives; and

 

 

  • develop an action plan to promote acceptance, heighten communication and the appreciation of differences.
