For more than 30 years, the Trust has honored its mission by acquiring and managing open space, promoting education about our natural resources, and encouraging our community to get involved.

March 17.  Supply Ponds fishway.  We continue our preparation for Branfords migrantsummer residents by preparing the fishway for the alewives and blueback herring thatwill be ascending Queach Brook in April and May heading for their spawning groundsin the Supply Pond and Linsley Lake.  Other work will be clearing brush from the area of the fishway and dam, mounting signs with information about the fishway, and general clean-up of the area around the Supply Pond.  Meet at 9:00 am at the path into the fishway on Short Rocks Rd.  Additional parking is available a short walk away at the main entrance to the Supply Ponds Preserve.  Bring work gloves, clippers, loppers, light hand saws and trash bags. April 28.  Jenny Vedder Preserve.  We will continue the removal of invasive plants,mostly privet, that was initiated during two work parties last year.   Meet at 9:00 am at the pull-off on Pleasant Point Rd. just south of the Amtrak line.  Bring work gloves, grub hoes, clippers and loppers.  The Land Trust will have several weed wrenches. May 19.  Washburn &Stony Creek Limited Partnership tracts.  We will clear the trails on these adjoining tracts between Stony Creek village and Jarvis Creek, and also remove some invasive plants if enough people turn out.  Meet at 9:00 am at the intersection of Thimble Islands, Wallace and Long Point Rds (the southern end of Wallace Rd).  Park on Wallace, Long Point and Thimble Island Rds.  Bring work gloves, clippers, loppers and light hand saws. June 16.  Branford Festival!!  Help the Land Trust introduce itself to the

community.  Spend an hour at the combined Land Trust/Branford River Project/

Conservation & Environment booth telling your friends and neighbors about open space in Branford, where they can go to enjoy it, and what they can do to protect it. Set-up starts early (7:00-7:30 am) and volunteers are needed throughout the day until we start breaking down the display between 3:30 and 4:00 pm.

The work parties offer a chance to get to know some of the BLT properties and to spend a little time with some great people.  If you have school age kids, this is a chance for you to pick up some community service credits.
